Courtney + Corey // Kentucky Engagement Photography
Courtney + Corey met and fell in love their sophomore year of college at Murray State University. Corey grew up in Louisville and Courtney’s just the sweetest southern gem from southern Kentucky. “We started dating a couple of months before New Years Eve of 2014. We’re getting married New Year’s Eve of this year – and it will be exactly 2 years since he told me he loved me for the first time!”
There’s a shoe tree that sits in the sun on the quad at Murray State with at least 50 pairs of mismatched shoes nailed to it. Although no one on campus can say when the tradition of the shoe tree began, it has become an integral part of Murray State’s history. If two students meet at Murray State, fall in love and then marry, they will have good luck if each partner nails a shoe to the shoe tree. (It’s even common for people to return to nail a baby shoe to the tree when they’ve started their family.) The current shoe tree is actually the second, because the first was struck by lightning and subsequently caught fire.
We couldn’t find room on this second shoe tree – so Courtney and Corey chose to start the third! We wish you the best of luck and many little shoes on that tree next to yours.
